Trillium Lake- a nearby gem

I was having lunch with a friend, a native to Portland, and he shared with me the Trillium flower is the Lotus flower of the State of Oregon. It starts out White when first bloomed, turning into Purple later.

Trillium is a majestic lake, as evidenced in the picture above. In the words of a yelp reviewer, 'Trillium Lake feeds the fish and your humanity'.

Huh.

Perhaps we cast -so as to hook- not only for fish but for our humanity as well. And there is no better place to ponder what our offering would bring than in the environs such as above. A Sonar Echo of ourselves with Nature becoming our reflection. And perhaps that is why a tight line is an animated stirring of a fish on one end, and on the other end, a stirring of our vitality pushing through the defensive layers we need to negotiate the trappings of living.

Get out there, for Nature has a soul calling that shakes us up in a lasting, and always good way. Here is another pic from the yelp website to help this pondering:

Green Drakes

Well if you are in the know then June is the time for Green Drakes. Nymphs, emerges, and dries all taking fish when fished at the correct time. The most impressive thing about these Drakes we have is the size, like sausages with wings these bad boys get noticed. If you have never seen a Green Drake now is the time check it out, and enjoy.

Yep Winter Steelhead or Winter Trout.

 Depending on what weather your getting the fishing can be awesome. I have been out for both trout and Winter Steelhead and have been finding success with both. The Steelhead are around and showing themselves to those willing to work, but you wont be alone on the river. With all this nice weather the urban rivers have been busy.


You cant catch Winter Steelhead if you don't get out there. Fish are being caught from the coast to the Urban rivers of Portland. The day you chose is everything.

Odd winter weather has lead to some great trout fishing!

On the East side the trout fishing has been very productive. Nymph fishing and dry fly fishing have been options on both the trips out on the Deschutes lately. Fish responded well to a variety of flies, time of day was more important. The Crooked river has been on fire and our very own Dave is there now so more info to come. Hope everybody has had a great start to their year!!!




Late fall is the best time for Terrestrials

Well even in our lovely state there is some great top water terrestrial fishing. From ants to Beatles to hoppers. from so of the small cascade streams and creeks to the Owyhee in far eastern Oregon. You can find fish looking for these types of bugs.

Before the weather gets to cold and the probability of fishing nymphs becomes more prolific. The opportunity remains during the up and coming Indian summer. The types of takes you can receive fishing with these tactics are amazing. With the bonus if your fishing Beatles or hoppers you can still fish your favorite dropper. The large foam patterns are also easy to see for even the older folks. You don't have to wait for the Salmon fly hatch.

Fishing Report

Bend rod! my favorite kind.

Well as Steelhead remain slow in the lower Deschutes fishing else where is great. The lakes of the cascade are producing well. Lost and Timothy are ripping the Hex hatch right now. While the mid day action is on damsel or flying ants.



PED's are awesome at the righ time.



The Trout fishing on the Deschutes has step up in the last 2 week. Evening Caddis is out of control. Hatches of caddis are being over lapped by PED's. The morning start as early as you are willing to rise. Starting with dead caddis and aquatic moths. Then Nymphing will be from about 12 to 1 until the shade hits the water. Caddis emergers like Silvey's are kicking ass as well as brightly colored attractor patters.
